I think that these two readings were pretty similar in the fact that they both were ethnographers observing a group's actions. They differed in the way that they came about and presented their studies. In My Freshman Year, she mainly focuses on the point of forming a community and how people with similar interests and talents come together. She said that most didn't hangout with people in the same hall as them, but I find in my experience that it's the opposite and that I mostly find myself with close neighbors. In The Mind at Work, which I enjoyed reading much more than The Ethnography, they focus on the point of getting hard jobs to support their families and make a good future ahead for their children. Now a days we need a college degree and good education in order to get a job where we make enough money and enjoy it, whereas in our parents' time a college degree wasn't necessary. To conclude, I found these books to be interesting in learning different interpretations of certain experiences and lives people go through.
